The free game features Amethyst Mountain, the first level of the game where you can explore Yellowstone's wilderness, hunt elk, communicate with other wolves. EMBARK ON A QUEST FOR SURVIVAL Your quest begins on the slopes of Amethyst Mountain. Here you must test your hunting skills against elk, moose, and mule deer. Once you're a skilled hunter, you can seek out another wolf to become your mate.
Nature isn't beautiful. It is harsh, violent and extremely dangerous. Even alpha predators live with the relentless threat of disease, starvation or death at the hands of their rivals looming over them. This is ultimately what games like WolfQuest look to examine, giving players the opportunity to see the hostility and violence inherent in such a world.From the very start of these and similar games, you will find yourself challenged to simply succeed. You will need to rapidly learn the lay of the land, where the most prosperous hunting grounds are, and if there are any friendly groups close by. While you can establish territories of your own and even reliable hunting grounds, nasty surprises can always arise. If you start in the winter, you might find that a hibernating bear was lurking there, ready to emerge during the summer. You might even find that your new territory intrudes upon another group, or that hostile pack of predators looks to infringe on your new home. The situation present is constantly evolving, constantly adapting and nothing is truly certain, until you're left perpetually watching your back.Another critical point surrounding games like WolfQuest is that they're a survival game bereft of many traditional survival elements. You lack the ability to craft items or weapons, or even to build defenses for yourself. As such, it operates on an entirely different set of rules. Your challenge instead stems from how you establish a family, secure your home and when to attack your prey. It comes from your ability to single out vulnerable grazing beasts cut off from their herd, and to use the AI's behaviour against itself, until you can drive them towards easy kills. You can't stockpile food, but you can at least ensure you know how to take a buffalo down if it shows up.Perhaps most pressingly though, like many similar survival games your task is to overcome the struggling elements until you can fully establish a new home for yourself. Building up your numbers and establishing a new pack is essential in games like WolfQuest, giving you the numbers you need to drive off more dangerous predators and take down more prey. It is slow going at first, you will need to take your time and often fight for any step forwards. Yet, once you do fully establish and defend your new territories, you can start to push outwards, claiming more for yourself.If you're looking for an experience which gives you the chance to experience nature at its fullest, or one which simply gives you the chance to play a survival game bereft of many of the usual rules, then take a look at the games similar to Wolfquest below
